Cafe, Hillsborough, NC, Feb. 23, 5:00 p.m.

Serves Coffee, pastries, and sandwiches. Encourages customers to sit for long periods of time, talking, eating, working with laptops, etc.

Ambient light, task lighting behind counter

Light Sources: natural light, incandescent, fluorescent

Natural light enters the space through large, plate-glass windows and glass door. Above tables are pendant down lights. Fluorescent lamps light the space in front of the glass display cases and behind the counters in the workspace. Pendant down lights illuminate the counter and above the food cases.

Reflective materials: table tops and chrome band around table tops, glass food cases, flooring, light fixtures, wall art frames and glass, metal on chairs.

The space is bright and cheerful but has a relaxed atmosphere. Colors are bright - - not washed out. Show off the reds, yellow and oranges well.

Hillsborough Public Library

Ambient Light for locating and scanning books, and for reading and research at tables
Light Sources: halogen and fluorescent, natural light
Luminaires:
Hanging fixtures for fluorescent lamps. Lamp is not visible. Cover is a grid so light is diffused.

Fixture for halogen lamps (bowl shaped down lights) are hung high above tables, so are not great for task lighting or reading for long periods of time. Lamp is not visible because there is a lens on the fixture and it diffuses the light

There is a yellowish cast to the light.

Natural light enters through tall windows on the East and West sides of the space.

Above hanging fixtures, ceiling is not illuminated.

Colors appear slightly dull. The room is well lit. The level of illumination provides a relaxing atmosphere to the space and encourages quiet behavior.

Ambient Light

Light Sources: fluorescent, incandescent and natural light

Luminaires: pendant downlights over tables; recessed fixtures with grid to diffuse fluorescent light and give the appearance of skylight

The illumination of the space is sufficient. The ample lighting makes the space appear clean and cheerful and the food fresh and appetizing.

Sketch Series 3_Residence

Ambient Light
Light Source: incandescent, 4-40W bulbs (1 bulb is out)

Luminaire: Ceiling fan tulip sconces - downlights

Illumination has yellow cast to it.

Colors: appear darker: red appears more brown, lavender shows more red/pink, and pring shows more brown/beige, d. blue (not pictured here) shows more red

Essence of Sparkle Group Light Project

For this project, our objective was to achieve a play of brilliance or sparkle lighting effect. We did this by projecting red light onto a carved foam sculpture. The interior of the box was painted black so any light was absorbed except that on the sculpure thus creating a dramatic effect.

· Hobbies: reading, woodworking, painting, scrapbooking, creating DVD photo collages, any craft that strikes my fancy
· Major: Interior Architecture. Reasons: I am a nostalgic person. My maternal grandparents were a large influence from early childhood onward. With the exception of some traveling during World War II, they lived most of their lives in the small town where they grew up, so there was a strong sense of family history and roots. Both my parents are from that same small town. Although my grandparents and most of my parents’ extended family are no longer living, I feel their presence when I visit the town. This is why I am interested in architectural restoration. I believe old buildings, whether they are homes, factories, or office buildings, have stories to tell and should be preserved. I want to specialize in architectural preservation. I am also very interested in furniture design. I like working with my hands.
